2016 Christmas gift guide

It’s that time of year again! Is there someone in your life who you want to surprise, but you’re not quite sure what to get? Here’s an admittedly non-comprehensive gift guide for Christmas (and other holidays) 2016. Ready your wallets, and set your phasers to spend. POP Figures A bit of a favourite here on CollecTech, POP figures are small vinyl statuettes that portray (arguably) charming little versions of pop-culture characters and icons. They’re fairly inexpensive too, compared to other figures, at an RRP of £9.99 each. They stack on top of each other in box, and take up very little real-estate out of box, so even one or two of these would make a charming addition to any work desk or display. If your recipient already has a sizable collection, then perhaps instead look to invest in some POP protectors. These help prevent damage or wear to the boxes, and come in two varieties; a thin plastic version that you’d look to be paying about £1.50 for at maximum, or a slightly more expensive heavy-duty variant that will ideally run you about £6 or £7. Plush Plush are always fantastic little gifts, especially for younger ones (but we strongly believe they can be enjoyed by all ages!). The show Miraculous has been a big hit, and Toys ‘R’ Us are offering plush toys of both Tikki and Plagg. Five Nights at Freddy’s has become a world-wide sensation too, and Funko are offering both small and well, gigantic cuddly versions of the murderous robots from the game. Games Whilst video games release all year-round, there’s always a large influx of them in the months leading up to Christmas. Not everyone has pockets as deep as the Mariana Trench, and likely can’t afford all of the titles that they’d like. It’s worth doing a bit of extra research to see if there’s a specific title your recipient is after, but Watch Dogs 2 and Final Fantasy XV are couple of stand out titles that I can recommend to get you started. Clothing I’m specifically referencing t-shirts and hoodies, but there are certainly a lot of places that sell geeky leggings and dresses too. In the past you might have gotten a fair few odd looks for wearing a shirt that could have been considered a little bit nerdy, but nowadays it’s more or less the fashion to do so. A H&M voucher is fine, but why not go all out and get somebody a shirt that references their favourite tv show, game, or heck, even their favourite professional wrestler? Assorted collectibles I think it’s worth mentioning some other nice little treats. But again, it’s probably a good idea if you have a bit of an idea what franchises your recipient likes. You can get a really nice little gift for under £10 if you know where to look. How about a pack of Yokai Watch Medals, or a Mystery Mini figure? Don’t forget about Amiibo either! If you shop around a bit you can easily find them on the cheap.
