Planet Coaster launches in to beta tomorrow, and then full release a week later. I’m going to go over all of the major announcements from the 7th of November livestream. There were a good few quality of life announcements made covering general features such as entrances and how paths work, and general park management. Perhaps the least interesting of the features announced, but still rather exciting is the inclusion of a handful of new shops. Hot dogs, coffee and balloons will be available for purchase among other things. Particularly exciting is the ability to set your own sequences for flat rides. This could easily be toyed around with to create exact replicas of specific versions of rides found around the world, and visually too with community created ride skins. Three new major ride types were shown off. Wooden coasters are officially here! They were announced as in development a while back, but only fully shown as of yesterday. There will be two types in the game. The classic style of wooden coaster will feature. Accurate supports and banking far exceed what has featured in previous games. The models featured are closer to recent Rocky Mountain Construction and Great Coasters International models, rather than older examples. Hybrid coasters are on their way too. These feature wooden frames with steel overlays on top, allowing for much harsher angles and inversions. Water rides are a staple feature of any good theme park, and there are two types that you’ll now be able to put in yours! Both log flumes and river rapids will be available. There aren’t too many special features that come along with them, but the models and physics seem solid enough, whilst perhaps not as polished as the coasters. You’ll be able to have them either running along the ground, or elevated in their standard trough, or manufacture your own via terrain modeling. Perhaps the most exciting addition is the ability to create dark rides, and the implication that has for other rides in your park too. All the game really provides you with is a track and vehicle, you have to construct everything else yourself. Whilst there is no dedicated system, this is actually a good thing. There are limitless options to what you’re able to create in this way with custom buildings and terrain options. Triggered events take things to the next level. Lights, sounds, and animated objects can all be set to trigger at certain parts of the ride, with a simple, yet ingenious system. It’s going to let you construct anything from a miniature traveling ghost train, to full on Haunted Mansion style affairs. Family dark rides will of course be present too. Keep in mind that these will be able to to be applied to coasters and water rides too. Given the time and skill, Chiapas and Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge Water Barges are not out of your reach. The only thing really missing is a standard boat ride, as without that we won’t be able to create anything in the style of Valhalla or Pirates of the Caribbean. I wouldn’t worry too much though, as the developers have already stated they intend to add more content in to the game at a later point. It’s not know whether this will be via a paid expansion, or a free patch. Go-Karts have been mentioned a few times, and if asked for enough, I would imagine that boat rides would make it in there too. The beta releases tomorrow, November 9th, with the full game releasing a week later. Not all new content will be available from tomorrow, as some things need touching up a little, but any content not present tomorrow will be available in the full game.
